Dunehouse II

In a hidden spot in the dunes of Bergen aan Zee, there is a plot with an un-Dutch height difference of almost 7 metres. The house has been made part of the dune; partly dug in, with marram grass that continues to grow on the overhanging roofs.

The house is equipped with a greenhouse whose residual heat is used to heat the house. The excess heat is stored in the ‘sand battery’, an insulated piece of dune behind the house. In the winter season, this heat can be recovered.
